Luk Thep (translated as "Child Angel") refers to realistic, life-like dolls in Thai culture believed to hold a benevolent child spirit. They are a modern iteration of traditional Thai animist beliefs, specifically tied to Kuman Thong (traditional spirit charms).
Owners adopt factory-made plastic or vinyl reborn dolls and take them to a Buddhist monk or spirit master for a blessing ceremony (Pluk Sek). The ritual invites a kindly child spirit to inhabit the doll to bring luck, wealth, and protection.
Unlike passive amulets, owners treat Luk Thep like living human children—dressing them in clothes, feeding them, carrying them around, and taking them on trips.
