Small Town Post Office Beneath Columbia Gorge

Tim Trautmann @timtrautmann.com · Apr 13 United States Post Office, Cascade Locks, Oregon, US

The mid-century brick and concrete United States Post Office stands sentinel in Cascade Locks, Oregon, its modernist lines softened by the dramatic backdrop of forested mountains rising into crystal blue sky. Two flags—the Stars and Stripes and a black POW/MIA banner—flutter from a single pole, while vintage street lamps frame the humble federal building. The Columbia River Gorge's towering peaks create a theatrical backdrop for this essential piece of small-town American infrastructure, where community connection meets governmental service.
