Silent Vigil Before the Storm

Tim Trautmann @timtrautmann.com · Apr 21 Revolution Hall, Portland, Oregon, US

Three figures draped in Ukrainian flags stand with their backs turned on the rain-slicked plaza outside Portland's Revolution Hall, their blue and yellow shrouds creating a haunting tableau of solidarity. A young child in a dark hooded jacket sits in the foreground, gazing directly at the camera with knowing eyes that belie their years. The overcast February sky and bare winter trees frame this prescient moment of protest, captured in the days before Russian forces would cross into Ukraine.
